Moon Knight

Following the massive success that was 2021’s superhero cinema,  notably Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand in 2022 starting with the release of their newest TV show Moon Knight.

In Moon Knight, premiering on Mar. 30th,  Steven Grant (Oscar Issac), a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, is troubled by blackouts and flashbacks of a past life in this series.

Steven learns he suffers from dissociative identity disorder and is forced to share a body with mercenary Marc Spector. He soon becomes the conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, which only further exacerbates Marc’s anxiety over his mental illness, and as Steven/foes Marc’s close in on them, they must juggle their dual identities while immersed in a dangerous mystery among Egypt’s great gods.

Unlike all of Marvel Studios’ previous series for Disney Plus, which were based on existing characters from the company’s pre-2019 feature films, Moon Knight charts a brand new path, with a new set of characters and a storyline that has no overt connection to the MCU.

Moon Knight is frequently portrayed in Marvel Comics as Marc Spector, a military veteran who dies but is reborn through the powers of the Moon-god Khonshu, who has Spector work as his first priest. Moon Knight then works to protect nighttime travelers.

The new trailer released on Jan. 18th, shows Marc increasingly struggling to tell the difference between his normal life and his dreams, which is set to rapper Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘n’ Night.” He plays with a Rubik’s cube, unable to sleep, only to jump out of bed in a panic with his foot chained to his bed—oblivious to the fact that he was the one who restrained himself the night before. After visiting an Egyptian museum, he sees a vision of Khonshu and later meets Ethan Hawke’s villain, an unnamed mummy. The trailer ends with Marc being enveloped by the Moon Knight costume and a shot of him brutally beating someone up on a bathroom floor.

Moon Knight is one of Marvel’s most mysterious and varied heroes, with several personalities and personas hidden beneath his mask, making this upcoming series highly anticipated.
