Friendly Neighborhood? Try Friendly-Multiverse Spider-Man

In perfect Marvel cinematic fashion, Marvel Studios has once again shocked fans worldwide with the release of the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home on Aug. 23rd. Following the release of the Marvel mini-series WandaVision and Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the first films that will continue the multiverse arc.

No Way Home will be the third installment in the MCU’s Spider-Man series, following the effects of the previous film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, when Mysterio reveals Peter Parker’s secret identity to the entire world. Now standing accused for murder by the world, Spider-Man seeks help from Doctor Strange, but it appears the consequences of changing time are greater than he anticipates.

Not only is Marvel introducing a new overarching multiversal conflict in Phase Four, but familiar villains are also rejoining the cinematic ring. Confirmed appearances include Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, and Electro, all played by the original actors from Sony’s two past Spider-Man movie series with Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, and Jamie Foxx respectively. However, there are also rumors that four more classic Spider-Man villains will make an appearance, forming the Sinister Six on the big screen. Among the guesses are Scorpion and even Mysterio, who fans are theorizing may be posing as Doctor Strange.

Others have guessed that Kraven the Hunter will also be making his MCU debut in this film, but as he has already been cast for his own standalone feature, this is unlikely. Another popular rumor is the return of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, serving as an ally to Spider-Man. Cox, however, has recently denied the theory in an interview with the Irish Examiner

Perhaps more clues on the next movie with everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man will be revealed with the recent release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming release of Eternals in November. But with its release coming Dec. 17th, there is still plenty of time to speculate what will happen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. For now, fans can only wait for more trailers to release.
