Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl Win

At the beginning of the 2021 Super Bowl game, many fans thought Kansas City would ultimately score another win after their performance in 2020. Kansas City took the trophy home last year in hopes to keep it this year. But to Kansas City fans’ disbelief, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, marking their first Super Bowl win since 2003.

The Super Bowl sparked excitement with a rivalry between 25 year old Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and 43 year old Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady. Brady carries a lifetime of wins while Mahomes follows a potential era of similar dominance.

Throughout the game, the Bucs kept their eye on Mahomes, targeting him as a necessary obstacle to defend against. They pressured Mahomes 29 times and sent extra pass runners in two of those plays. The Buccaneers put up a strong front against the Chiefs’ offensive line, rarely letting any players through. Tampa Bay’s defense forced Kansas City to score field goals while they scored touchdowns.

The Buccaneers had a great performance and used many strategies to burnout the chiefs. With only a short amount of time before the last quarter ended, the Bucs answered the field goal by going 74 yards in six plays, Brady threw down the center of the field, and Tampa Bay’s running back, Leonard Fournette, finished it off with a 27-yard touchdown. The Bucs won their first ever Super Bowl in their home stadium, dominating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9.

Although Kansas City lost, Mahomes sees it as an opportunity to do better next time.

“They were the better team today. They beat us pretty good, the worst I think I’ve been beaten in a long time. We can’t let this define us. We have to continue to get better going into next year and prepare ourselves to hopefully be in this game again,” Mahomes said.

Both teams created a game filled with excitement and memorable plays. Each team gave it their all and while Kansas City hoped to take home the trophy two years in a row, it was time for Tampa Bay to score a win.
