Anti-abortion protesters wake up MCHS students

Four protesters took a stand in front of MCHS on the morning of Monday May 9, in attempts to persuade students on the hazards of abortion. Kevin Olivier, a member of the Center for Bioethical Reform, spoke on behalf of himself and the three other members present.

Headquartered in Lake Forest, California, the Center focuses on the right to life for the unborn. Olivier and the three other members were sent out to bring the Center’s message to the community.

“We wouldn’t call it a protest; we would call it an educational display,” Olivier said. “Our whole purpose here is we want students to know what abortion is.”

The four members held up signs with one side displaying a graphic image and a caption on the other stating that the picture is a “10 week human being killed in a first-trimester abortion.”

“There’s a lot that could be said, but our primary message here is that abortion is an act of violence that kills a human being,” Olivier said.

The Center of Bioethical Reform  advertises the need for greater abortion-based education in schools.“A lot of Americans believe that abortion in the first trimester simply removes a clump of tissue. And that is not correct. It’s a real human DNA,” Olivier said.

Olivier believes that there is an even bigger demand for abortion education at the high school level.

“People have abortions as early as age nine. That’s unusual, but it can be that early,” Olivier said. “Certainly people in their teenage years are having abortions.”

However, this event stands as the first and last encounter between the Center for Bioethical Reform and Mt. Carmel High School.

“This is the extent of it, because we’re not being invited onto the campus,” Olivier said. “We’re doing what we can to reach students as they enter.”

The group’s presence Monday morning was an unusual event and they do not plan on continuing their movement at MCHS.
