Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Glass Onion's main cast

Knives out: A 2019 murder mystery film that many viewers found to be a rollercoaster ride on its way to just over $310 million at the global box office. The success of the film motivated Rian Johnson to develop Knives Out   into a series that would follow Daniel Craig’s character, detective Benoit Blanc, in his investigations. As a result, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be coming out this year.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery  follows Blanc on his way to Greece to investigate a murder when a tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites some of his closest and dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island, but it soon becomes clear that all is not perfect in paradise.

Rian Johnson, the sequel’s writer-director, revealed that the sequel’s perspective is rooted in detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), who receives a personal invitation to the private island getaway prior to the murder.

Johnson was clear that Glass Onion wasn’t a sequel to its previous but rather a stand-alone movie with a fresh plot and cast, much like the Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot books.

He drew influence from books other than Christie’s on how It centers on a group of rival friends or foes who are engaging in a power struggle with one of their wealthy buddies. Examples of this genre are Evil Under the Sun and The Last of Sheila. He begins by inviting them to come to this murder mystery event at this remote place. In The Last of Sheila, it takes place on his yacht, and everything ends up going horribly wrong. In essence, that is how Glass Onion opens.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is the title of the sequel, according to Rian Johnson. The Beatles’ song of the same name from 1968 served as the source of the name’s idea.

The sequel will feature an altogether new story, according to Rian Johnson. The director used Agatha Christie as an example in an interview with SiriusXM in February of last year to illustrate how not every murder mystery follows the same pattern. He expressed his desire to explore the genre with fresh settings, characters, and plot developments.

That reason is how the plot of the new film has nothing to do with Maria, Harlan, or the characters from the previous Knives Out film, but instead follows Blanc’s character through new investigations and how he solves them.

With the first Knives Out being a beloved and enthralling murder mystery, fans are eager to see the new twists and plots that Johnson has incorporated into Glass Onion.
