The year winds down, yearbooks are signed and banquets are held. As our MC seniors look to their future, first they must take a moment to look back on their time here not only as students but also as athletes. On June 1, MC held the annual Athlete of the Year banquet to recognize their time here at MC as excellent athletes.

The trophies were passed out and the applause was heard at MC’s annual Athlete of the Year banquet for the 2015-2016 year.

This was no easy decision. With hundreds of athletes to choose from, all of whom work just as hard, it was a difficult process for the coaches to make their final decision. Even though only six Sundevils were able to receive these highly-coveted awards, for those athletes that balance school work and their team while always projecting the Sundevil Way, your work does not go unnoticed.

Senior, Lucas Johnson and tri-varsity athlete for football, basketball and track, was recognized for the second year in a row and is slated to play football for Georgia Tech in the fall.

“Even though I didn’t get the dress code,” Johnson said jokingly on his instagram, “[I am] blessed to win athlete of the year the second time in a row.”

These students have dedicated their blood, sweat, and tears to their sports and teams throughout their four years at MC. Some will move out of state to play for a new team, while others may stick around in California making headways in everything they do. All in all, these athletes time and contributions to MC will not be forgotten.
