“It smells like barbeque,” said many MC athletes at practice after school on Monday, September 23. Smoke and the smell of fire spread through the Mt. Carmel High School campus at about 4:40pm after the shrubbery between the high school and Carmel Mountain Preschool caught fire. The police and San Diego Fire Department were alerted and were able to put out the fire in about five minutes.

The area that caught fire was not accessible to any student or staff on campus so the SDFD classified it as a small brush fire.

The company of Humbletown (the theater kids), football players, colorguard, cross country runners and all other students and staff on campus were evacuated from the back part of campus to the stadium until it was completely safe.
