“Get Rita’s, Get Happy” is the slogan for MC’s latest dessert fad: Italian ice and custard conveniently located on Black Mt. road.
This was originally an east coast company prior to a couple years ago, thus there are very few Rita’s around here.
I was able to go and get a taste of Rita’s for myself twice now. but sadly, the italian delight hasn’t quite lived up to the hype..
Don’t get me wrong, I think Rita’s is good; it’s just not as amazing as everyone made it out to be.
For the last few weeks, Rita’s established itself as the new hangout spot for many MC students and sports teams. There are better places to hangout at, but Rita’s is still good.
My first time there, I had what they call a Gelati, which is a little bit of custard, some ice, and then more custard on top.
The Gelati wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be, I didn’t like the texture and flavor of how the two things mixed.
I had this in mind and for the next time, I ordered just the ice. I was more impressed with that.
My family and I have spent time trying many different flavors between us, and I have enjoyed most of them. Of all of the flavors, my favorite is the creamy peach ice.
However, Rita’s only has certain flavors on certain days. This may not necessarily be a huge issue, but it is definitely something to be taken into consideration- especially if you are a picky eater.
Also, both times, the store was very crowded, which I didn’t like. The second time, the store was bursting with people due to a well- attended elementary school fundraiser.
The shop itself is very small and there is no seating, so you either have to sit outside or take it with you. I think that this presents challenges for the big groups, like sports teams, to find adequate seating.
Even though it is small, the store is designed nicely so it is fun and decorative to see when you come in the doors. The TV screen menus that they are very cool and helpful for the customers. They also enhance the overall vibe of the custard haven.
All in all, Rita’s is definitely a good desert place, but the students going there are far too excited about it in general.
