No more roller hockey

download Roller Hockey is a competitive, intense sport, that, in the past has been a significant part of many MC students lives. But, at this point, Senior Brandon Mitchell is the sole  returning roller hockey player, since the rest of the team graduated last year. “From our school, the team was me, Billy Wigginton, Miles Noelle, Ian Thompson, and John Sparling [and a few others]” Mitchell said.

Though this year there is no team for MC, many students involved last year and in years past enjoyed the sport and group dynamic.

“It was fun, easy, and we all knew everyone,” Mitchell said.

Although some MC students participated in the sport in past years, many do not know the basics of what roller hockey is.

“It’s hockey, but not on ice,” Mitchell said. “It’s four on four, not five on five and that’s about it.”

Mitchell looked back on what his team accomplished in the past, and relished in their memorable victories.

“My favorite memory was probably beating West View without any subs,” Mitchell said.

Despite the absence of roller hockey at MC, Mitchell still gets to play the game he loves in a similar  form.

“I play ice hockey in the 18 year old and over league,” Mitchell said.

Though ice hockey  is different from roller hockey in some ways, Mitchell enjoys his childhood sport just as much. .

“I always played ice hockey since I was seven, and there’s not that big of a difference between ice and roller hockey,” Mitchell said. “I like them both the same, it’s just two versions and variations of playing hockey.”

Although MC lacks a roller hockey team now, former MC roller hockey player Mitchell still has an outlet for his love of the sport.
