Committed athletes eager for new opportunities

As seniors make their decisions on where to go to college, the choice is even harder for athletes hoping to accept scholarships. Athletes spend countless hours perfecting their skills, hoping to receive recognition or even money to help fund their education. Here at MC, there are several athletes that will continue to play their sport in college.

On the baseball diamond, Jeremy Clark (Calvin College), Jack Melton (Colorado Mesa), and Daniel Cope (CSU Fullerton) have all signed their scholarships to play at various universities.

Cope, who will be playing at Cal State Fullerton next year, looks forward to playing for a quality program.

“Fullerton has a great baseball program and I’m thankful that I get to stay close to home,” Cope said.

Lucas Johnson (Georgia Tech), Carter Couch (Savannah State), Rashid Shaheed (Weber State), Jordan Gochenour (University of San Diego), and Kion Gould (Dixie State) will all play college football.

Quarterback Lucas Johnson is excited about attending Georgia Tech for various reasons.

“I’m looking forward to going across the country and I’m happy that I can help my parents out with a scholarship,” Johnson said. “All of my hard work has finally paid off.”

You can catch boys soccer standout Kasdan Bakos roaming the field for the Carnegie Mellon Scotties next year.

“I can’t wait to play at the next level and represent my college,” Bakos said.
