This year’s girls volleyball team set a new record for their sport at MC. After progressing through the beginning of the season undefeated and placing second in the CIF finals, the team was able to reach the first round of state, the farthest level that any MC girls volleyball team has attained.
Senior Vittoria Juarez recognized the advantages that allowed her team to perform with a lead.
“There were a lot of girls that were also on varsity last year, so we already had so much experience,” Juarez said.
Varsity player senior Kelsey McDonough attributed their success to her teammates’ sportsmanship.
“We had some really amazing players this year that not only were very passionate about the game but also great teammates,” McDonough said.
Juarez ascribed the success made this year to the values that her teammates exhibited.
“It’s mainly mentality and how you move on to the next point,” Juarez said. “Volleyball is not just about talent; it’s about effort. You have to keep going even if you lose a point.”
Both McDonough and Juarez saw an optimistic mindset as the passport to success.
“Keeping a positive attitude through it all really helped us get far,” Juarez said.
With the bar set high, future MC girls volleyball teams will have to give it their all in order to surpass this season’s achievement.
