Yoga Pants. Not the most modest form of pants, but do they really require rules banning female students from wearing them? Supposedly, yoga pants are “distracting” to the learning environment, according to the male faculty at Devil’s Lake High School in North Dakota. In addition to the ban on yoga pants, they also wish to ban any type of skinny jeans, leggings…etc. To be completely honest, this news makes me uncomfortable and peeved.
The new dress code is due to the uneasiness of the male faculty around girls wearing these tight bottoms. It’s not simply a dress code, its offensive to women. Why should the opinions of male faculty dictate the decision on dress code?
Several students are outsaged by this new rule. Women have no reason to riot about it, or to go on crazy rants about feminism. Although, we should always (seriously, always) have an opinion and a fair explanation for restrictions put on us. I believe, in a sense, that every woman should support their right to voice their opinion and express their individuality.
I personally believe all women should be feminists, because feminism by definition is the belief that women should have the same rights as men. The idea of men putting restrictions on young teens based off of their own issues makes me angry. The girls lose opportunities to express themselves and dress comfortably.
The topic of changing the dress code to accommodate the feelings of men reflects poorly on male students and faculty. To be frank, if a man feels uncomfortable around me while I’m wearing skinny jeans, that is not my issue, it’s theirs. Also, in the real world, there is no dress code. People wear skinny jeans and leggings whether men get distracted or not. If a girl expresses herself by wearing yoga pants, let her.

Jordan is a Senior and runs on the MC Cross Country & Track team. She loves to laugh and tries to make puns all the time which aren't really funny. She is an energetic, friendly girl who you can count on. She also eats a lot of chocolate and sour patch kids...so maybe that's why she has so much energy.
