Rumors have been flying around MC regarding the recent resignation of French teacher, Taryn Thompson.
“No,” said Principal Greg Magno in a response to a request as to whether he could elaborate regarding Thompson’s resignation.
“This subject is not one I can comment on directly,” Magno said.
Thompson did not respond to the SUN’s request for an interview.
The current teacher for French at MC is Mary Ann Dhuyvetter. Dhuyvetter originally worked as a long-term substitute for Thompson first trimester.
“Someone notified me at the beginning of the year that Mme. Thompson was ill and that they needed someone to teach her classes,” Dhuyvetter said.
After having subbed for Thompson for an extended period of time and having been familiar with the students and curriculum, Dhuyvetter was offered the opportunity to assume the position of MC’s sole French teacher.
“Mme. Thompson unfortunately had to resign her position at the beginning of March and since I had already been subbing for her French classes, I was offered and accepted her job,”Dhuyvetter said.
When asked whether she had any further knowledge regarding the resignation of Thompson, Dhuyvetter was unable to provide any additional information.
“It’s not really my job to talk about Mme. Thompson and really I’m not privy to personal knowledge about her. I do know that she was ill quite a bit this year and I have nothing but sympathy for her and I know that she only resigned because she felt that she had to,” Dhuyvetter said.
Though it is still uncertain whether Dhuyvetter’s position here at MC is a permanent one, she continues to inspire her students with her passion for teaching French.
“I hope it [the teaching position] will be permanent! I love it at MC and I love teaching French. I love the people here,” Dhuyvetter said.
