Amidst the Mountains of Carmel, a short drive east of MC, there is a brand new theater called “Angelika.” Once the home of theaters and matinees every weekend, this place has revolutionized movies for locals. I saw Mockingjay, Part Two with my little brother and was pleasantly surprised to purchase a ticket for only 14 dollars at such a luxury movie theater.
Before I even entered,I noticed a large cafe outside the building sold goodies such as flatbreads and gourmet paninis. I marveled at the warm, cozy setting of the outdoor cafe before even entering the theater.
Once inside, I was gripped by the cool color schemes, the chandelier, and murals of early stars hung among the walls. I advanced to the “candy” counter, containing fancy chocolate, lattes, pretzels, and virtually anyd sweet or salty snack your taste buds fancy. I purchased a bar of dark chocolate and a latte, and my brother hauled a large, butter-soaked popcorn to theater two.
So far, I was enthralled with this new institution, and doubted it could get any better until I strolled through the carpeted foyer and opened the double doors to the theater. Plush, reclining chairs filled the room and beckoned me to come sit in them. I was seriously considering seeing a movie every day.
The folding table on the side of the chair folded out and i set my latte and my chocolate in front of me, and even took my shoes off. The surround sound and image was pure bliss and to this day, my visit to the Angelika remains the best twenty-eight dollars I’ve ever spent.
