Sleep: we resisted it as kindergartners and we cherish it as high schoolers.
Finding time to relax has become a lot more difficult than it used to be; after finishing homework at midnight, I force myself to doze off in order to get as much sleep as I can before waking up at the ripe hour of six. But I almost always end up thinking about all the stresses of life, precluding myself from getting the maximum shut-eye possible.
Thanks to a coincidental advertisement interrupting my Twitter feed, I discovered DigiPill, an app for sleep and relaxation.
The app utilizes “digital pills” for various necessities, including: deep sleep, anxiety help, depression symptoms, power naps, motivation, focus, and many more. Each pill is a unique monologue that eases the mind for miscellaneous purposes.
It comes with a pre-downloaded pill called “T-Break”, prescribed for relaxation. When I tried it out, I snuggled into my bed and listening to the soothing, Morgan Freeman-esque voice gently subduing me. In all honesty, I haven’t listened to the full 13 minute track because I fall asleep within the first four minutes.
I’m never one to believe in these meditation-type apps, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the “prescribed” pill lulled me to sleep in a matter of minutes, leaving me fresh and renewed the next morning.
On another note, I know I’m not the only sleep-deprived high schooler without a bottomless wallet out there. The app comes with the aforementioned pre-downloaded pill; however, all other pills are $1.99 through an in-app purchase. On the bright side, almost every week it provides promo codes for 50% off. The app also has other services available for purchase that can get pricey.
It received a four star rating from 277 App Store critics, many of whom claimed that they were not willing to purchase other pills.
Nevertheless, DigiPill can provide a catharsis for many users. No matter the reason–exhaustion, insomnia, depression, or stress– DigiPill promises the solace of a full night of sleep.
