Review: Santorini Island Grill B+

For those of you passing through Scripps Ranch, you may have seen the restaurant called Santorini Grill. Santorini Grill is a restaurant that serves Greek sandwiches, plates, and salads.

The restaurant décor is nothing out of the ordinary, and they offer your basic indoor and outdoor seating. The servers are polite and happy, but not to the point of annoying.

When you read the menu, it’s neatly organized into sections. The restaurant offers a variety of choices from chicken to sausage, and gyro to shrimp. A good thing about this place is the price. Now Greek food is naturally expensive so don’t eat Greek when you’re short on cash. But Santorini Island Grill offers fairly good sized meals for fewer than ten bucks.  I was able to order a starter of “feta fries”, fries covered in feta cheese, and a “Santorini platter” for less than 12 dollars.

The food itself isn’t bad. The gyro was pretty standard, the salad was fresh and crisp, and the chicken wings were phenomenal, both crisp and flavorful. My only warning is the chicken skewers which were a bit dry.

My main problem with this restaurant has to be the waiting time. I’ve been to this restaurant twice now, and both times I have been less than impressed with how fast my food arrived.  In fact, on the first occasion my friend and I had waited a good fifteen minutes at the restaurant. After fifteen minutes, I still had time to walk over to the Starbucks across the plaza and order two drinks. On my way back, my friend called me and informed me that our food was finally done.

Overall Santorini Island Grill is a great place to eat for a decent price. As long as you aren’t in a rush, and you want to have a place to sit and talk while you eat, Santorini Island Grill is a great place.
